News: Healthcare adds 52k jobs in May, remains among top growing sectors according to BLS data
For yet another month, the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports the healthcare sector as a top sector experiencing monthly job growth, with 52,000 jobs added in May. This number fits well with the job growth reported every month prior so far in 2023, bringing the average monthly job gain up to 50,000 over the past 12 months for the healthcare sector, HealthLeaders reported.
To break it down further, BLS reported the following:
- 25,000 jobs in the ambulatory sector
- 20,000 jobs at hospitals
- 9,000 jobs at nursing and residential care facilities
Besides healthcare, other sectors experiencing the most job growth in May included the professional and business services, government, construction, transportation and warehousing, and social assistance. Total nonfarm payroll employment added 339,000 jobs, bringing the unemployment rate up to 3.7%, with a 0.3% increase from April to May.
