News: New ICD-10 compliance date expected soon
August 16, 2012
CDI Strategies - Volume 6, Issue 17
A date for the potential ICD-10 implementation deadline may be released soon. The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is currently reviewing the HHS proposed rule, “Administrative Simplification: Standard Unique Identifier for Health Plans and ICD-10 Compliance Date Delay.” The OMB’s review is the final step before release of the final rule. However, the review can take up to 60 days.
HHS proposed a one-year delay (from October 1, 2013, to October 1, 2014) for ICD-10 implementation April 9. The proposed rule was published in the Federal Register April 17. HHS received a large number of comments on the proposed delay which may be one reason it took so long for the rule to make its way to the OMB.
