August 12, 2021
CDI Strategies - Volume 15, Issue 32
The 2021 patient safety indicators (PSI) specification updates were posted by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRP).
PSIs provide information on “potentially avoidable safety events that represent opportunities for improvement in the delivery of care. More specifically, they focus on potential in-hospital complications and adverse events following surgeries, procedures, and childbirth.” They can be used to help hospitals assess adverse events and in-hospital complications, allowing them to identify issues that may need further addressing.
Included in the 2021 updates were:
- Individual measure technical specifications
- Parameter estimates for 2021 ICD-10-CM/PCS
- Benchmark data tables for 2021 ICD-10-CM/PCS
- Log of coding updates and revisions
- Quality indicator user guide: PSI composite measures
