ACDIS update: 53% of CDI programs are understaffed, poll indicates

Over the last few months, ACDIS has conducted a series of polls on the state of staffing for CDI programs and surrounding departments. According to the results, the three “feeder professions” for CDI (physicians, nursing, and coding) are feeling the strain of a limited workforce—more than 75% of poll respondents said they were short staffed on nurses, nearly 50% said their physicians were short staffed, and 54% said their coding departments were short staffed.

Unsurprisingly, CDI staffing is also wearing thin. With a limited pool of potential CDI applicants coming from the physician, nursing, and coding professions, 53% of the 265 poll respondents say their CDI programs are also short staffed.
