Conference corner: Advance your career at the 2018 ACDIS Conference
Women who attend conferences related to their profession are more likely to receive a promotion, according to a recent study focused on the conference/career connection from the Harvard Business Review.
Researchers found that, for women who signed up for a conference (but hadn’t attended yet), only 18% received a promotion, but 42% women who had already attended the conference received a promotion. This means that after the conference, attendees were twice as likely to get a promotion than their non-attending peers.
Plus, 78% of the attendees in the study reported feeling “more optimistic about the future” after the conference and 71% said they felt “more connected to others.”
The study specifically targeted Conferences for Women (a series of events held nationwide for women from all industries to talk about leadership, fairness, and success) but ACDIS conference attendees similarly find that attending the annual event provides opportunities for professional development, personal growth, and career and networking opportunities.
“We know that attending conferences means valuable time out of the office and out-of-pocket expenses, but if you can implement just ‘One Thing’ from the ACDIS Conference, it pays for itself,” says ACDIS Director Brian Murphy.
ACDIS offers a “very informative and interactive conference that covers a broad scope of subject matter within the CDI industry,” says long-time member Joy Coletti, System Director, CDI Memorial Hermann Health System, in Houston.
“There were so many positive interactions and new information provided that all CDI should experience at least one conference if not all,” says Constance Pickens, RN, BSN, Medstar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC.
