Q: What first gave you the idea for a survey instrument to measure physician engagement?
A: CDI in Australia is relatively new and certainly very new in my organization. Having attended ACDIS 2015 in San Antonio I returned home to establish a program in my facility. Around the same time, I commenced my Doctoral studies with my research focus being on CDI. The survey instrument I have developed was initially to measure engagement in our CDI program which was commenced 3-months post implementation, a second survey was done at 12 months and this was developed based on the analysis of the first survey then a more extensive literature review.
Q: What are three things attendees can expect from your session?
A: Attendees will gain an appreciation of CDI from the Australian perspective I'll be discussing healthcare in Australia, DRG’s and funding models as well as how I am measuring clinician engagement.
Q: Who should attend your presentation and why?
A: Attendees would be those interested in measuring engagement in their own programs, my tool has been validated and developed based on evidence from the US in particular. Well, of course, anyone also interested in the Australian experience.
Q: How does your session challenge CDI professionals to think outside the box?
A: This piece of work is contributing to the evidence base around CDI which from my literature review needs to be more robust and extensive. My tool supports the current literature around health professionals not being taught at the university level how and what to document.
Q: What are you most looking forward to about this year’s conference?
A: Networking, catching up with colleagues I have met over the last couple of years and learning! And of course Vegas!!
Q: Fun question: Do you have any children and/or pets?
A: I have two boys named Charlie, 4, and James, 5, and a beagle named Sam.
