Productivity Problems: Assess and reassess to find the right formula
“Determining an adequate number of staff and ensuring acceptable levels of productivity for a CDI department can be overwhelming,” according to the CDI Roadmap. The overwhelming part typically comes during the implementation stage. Here, facilities need to hone the fledgling program’s focus and identify its mission (i.e., Medicare patients vs. all-payer review, quality measures vs. financial only, etc.), and use that goal when determining staffing levels, expectations, interplay with other departments, and productivity.
