Note from the Director of Programming: Volunteer to serve on the ACDIS Advisory Board
by Rebecca Hendren
It’s a big year for the ACDIS Advisory Board. This year’s elections will see seven new members joining the Board. Will one of them be you?
Board members must have at least five years of CDI experience, be an ACDIS member, and have obtained the CCDS credential. They serve for a three-year term and their role is to provide guidance and direction to the Association as well as to represent the CDI profession.
The ACDIS Advisory Board has accomplished a lot over the last 15 years, including writing position papers and white papers that shape our industry, provide oversight, and define CDI. One of the most important roles that the Association fulfills is to ensure the profession of CDI is governed and directed by those who practice CDI—and our amazing Board members over the years have ensured we did just that.
Because of the multi-disciplinary nature of the CDI profession, ACDIS strives to keep the makeup of the Board balanced with representation that reflects our membership. Along with myself and Laurie Prescott, the Board is comprised of twelve individuals:
- Seven clinicians or professionals with advanced clinical training or experience, which may include registered nurses possessing an RN licensure, physician assistants (PA) or nurse practitioners (NP), or foreign medical graduates (MBBS, etc.)
- Three individuals possessing HIM/coding certifications
- Two physicians possessing an MD or DO licensure
Due to complications during the pandemic, the usual rotation cycle was disrupted, which means this year we have openings for seven new members. This is a unique opportunity to be part of something different and affect real change in your industry. We are looking for:
- One individual from a physician background
- One individual from an HIM background
- Five individuals from a clinical background
Finalists for the ACDIS Advisory Board will be subject to a vote by the ACDIS membership in spring 2024.
If you’re interested in applying to serve, this is a wonderful year to get involved. The application period is open until February 2, 2024.

If you want to volunteer, but the Board doesn’t fit your skillset or bandwidth, we’re also calling for volunteers for the Resource Library Committee and the Chapter Advisory Committee. You can learn more about all these groups on the “Boards & Committees” page of the ACDIS website.
