Note from the Director of Programming: Exciting changes for ACDIS—but your membership benefits remain the same!

You may have seen this week’s exciting news that HCPro, the parent company of ACDIS, has been acquired by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), and you may be wondering what that means for ACDIS. The good news is that nothing is changing with our leadership and staff, with our membership benefits or education offerings, with the CCDS and CCDS-O certifications, or with our mission and vision for the association. Laurie Prescott, ACDIS interim director, and I will continue to run ACDIS, along with all the wonderful people you know and love, including our best in the world instructors and editors.
You can read the full announcement in the ACDIS Updates section of today’s CDI Strategies, but I wanted to take a minute to answer some of the questions you may have.
We are now part of the AHIMA enterprise family, and we will be run as a completely separate entity. Both ACDIS and AHIMA will continue to focus on our missions and our priorities, both of which center around putting healthcare knowledge to work and being vital resources for our members.
Laurie and I are thrilled about partnering with such a historic and respected voice in the industry and we look forward to exploring future opportunities to better serve our respective audiences.
In the meantime, we’re enthusiastically continuing our day-to-day work. We are prepping for next spring’s bigger and better-than-ever ACDIS conference, so please stay tuned for the release of the agenda next week!
There are no changes to how your ACDIS membership will be administered. The ACDIS and AHIMA memberships remain totally separate, as do the certifications. We are making no changes to how you recertify your CCDS or CCDS-O certifications. For more information on the process, please visit https://acdis.org/certification.
Finally, tracking and submitting your CEUs for recertification has also not changed. Please refer to the rules at https://acdis.org/certification for a refresher. I will leave you with my final thought, which is that while change can be intimidating, it is also a time to enjoy new opportunities and perspectives. Laurie and I are energized by this change and how it helps us increase our size, broaden our impact, and helps us further elevate the CDI profession.
