Note from the CCDS Coordinator: Happy birthday, ACDIS!
by Penny Richards
ACDIS and I are both celebrating our birthday this week. ACDIS is turning 10. I turned 10 a long time ago.
In 2007 (the year of ACDIS’ “birth”):
- Apple launched the iPhone
- Bob Barker appeared for the last time as host of “The Price is Right”
- “Harry Potter and Order of the Phoenix” debuted in theaters
- Helen Mirren won the Oscar for best actress for “The Queen”
- The Boston Red Sox swept the Colorado Rockies to take the World Series
In the year of my birth:
- A new home sold for $9,550 and gas cost 20 cents a gallon
- Jonas Salk gave himself and his family the first-ever polio vaccine
- Edmund Hillary and his Sherpa guide became the first people to reach the summit of Mount Everest
- Chevrolet built the first Corvette
- “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” with Marilyn Monroe debuted in theaters
(Go ahead, Google to learn my age.)
Since ACDIS can’t tell you what she wants for her birthday (yes, I think of ACDIS as a “she”), I’m going to tell you want I want for my birthday. Here goes, in no particular order:
- A CEU tracker so our CCDS holders can log their continuing education activities online
- For my local Cumberland Farms to never run out of fresh decaf iced coffee
- For everyone who fills out a CCDS application by hand to used black ink
- For Ben and Jerry’s Coffee Heath Bar Crunch ice cream to taste just as amazing as always AND be a healthy dessert option
- To never again have to tell someone that their CCDS expired because they didn’t recertify on time
There are exciting changes coming to CCDS processes in 2018, including that wished-for tracker. I can’t wait to tell you all the details—you’re going to like what we’re doing to make it easier for you to manage your certification.
ACDIS and I want you to enjoy a virtual cupcake in honor of our birthdays. We can almost hear you singing to us!
P.S. I really want a mint ‘53 Corvette.
