Note from the ACDIS Editor: Share your tips for engaging residents in a CDI Journal article!

When we talk about provider engagement, people most often mean working with physicians —but given the large umbrella of medical professionals, including but not limited to physician assistants, nurse practitioners, surgeons, etc., it’s a diverse purview. One topic we haven’t gone into depth on in the CDI Journal of late is engaging medical residents. But these students make up some of the best and brightest in the future of healthcare, and introducing them to CDI while they’re in the headspace of learning can make a big difference.
For our upcoming July/August edition of the CDI Journal, ACDIS is looking at CDI education and engagement, and we want to hear from you on topics like educating medical residents! Whether you have advice to share on educating certain types of providers, onboarding physicians, collaborating with other departments, or educating staff members (new or seasoned), writing an article about your experience is yet another form of education you can provide for the whole CDI community! On top of that, Journal writers who publish with us can earn ACDIS CEUs.
To learn more or to submit an article on one of these topics under the July/August edition, send your draft to be considered for publication to me, Associate Editor Jess Fluegel (jfluegel@acdis.org), as well as Associate Editorial Director Linnea Archibald (larchibald@acdis.org). Also please include a short professional bio and headshot with your submission.
All articles are due by Friday, June 1 to be considered in this edition! If that doesn’t work for you, please still reach out and we can work together to find a good place for your article.
To earn one (1) Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS)/CCDS-Outpatient (CCDS-O) CEU, writers need to have contributed a 700-1,500-word article published in the CDI Journal. Please note that each edition has limited space, so your article may be placed in a different publication as needed, and that only articles chosen for the Journal will be eligible for a CEU at the discretion of the ACDIS editorial team. Contributors published in the Journal receive 0.5 CEUs per 350 published words.
Education and engagement are the bread and butter of CDI work, so we’re excited to compile all the expert advice you have to offer for this upcoming edition. All are welcome to get involved and contribute—I look forward to reading everyone’s submissions!
