Note from the ACDIS Editor: Our newest edition of the CDI Journal is top quality!
by Jess Fluegel
In my opinion, our CDI Journal publication never disappoints thanks to the expert CDI writers and sources that contribute to it. So, calling this new edition “top quality” is more tongue-in-cheek than big news, from me, because quality is what it’s all about!
Five to 10 years ago, reviewing for quality represented an “expansion” area for many CDI teams. During that time, ACDIS conducted surveys, wrote articles, and interviewed guests on the ACDIS Podcast about what this expansion looked like for CDI programs. Now, however, the data shows that most CDI teams are already in this arena. Reviewing for quality isn’t an expansion area anymore; it’s a part of daily CDI work.
This edition of the CDI Journal seeks to offer a deeper look at quality topics for those who are ready to take the next step on their quality journey and make a bigger difference for their organizations and the patients they serve. We hope that this edition helps you go deeper into your quality reviews. Just because quality is a part of CDI’s daily life doesn’t mean there’s no opportunity for growth!
In this edition, readers will find articles about:
- Understanding the landscape of SDOH
- Understanding Vizient’s risk-adjusted index
- Tracking and reporting quality impact of CDI efforts
- Improving quality of care and documentation
- Considering quality in CDI reporting structures
- Clinical validation denials 101
- Engaging providers with publicly reported quality data
- CDI staffing practices related to professional background
- Partnering with consultants to maximize your key performance indicators
- CDI and coding challenges related to heart failure
- A physician advisor’s perspective on sharing quality metrics
This edition also includes our regular Meet a Member feature to offer advice directly from a CDI professional in the ACDIS community.
The ACDIS team hopes you enjoy this latest edition and find something helpful in its pages. As always, the CDI Journal is a benefit of ACDIS membership. To learn more about joining ACDIS, click here. ACDIS members can earn one CCDS/CCDS-O CEU for reading each edition of the Journal and taking the associated quiz. You can learn more on the full edition download page.
Writing for the CDI Journal is a great opportunity for CDI professionals to share advice with the community and further their professional development. In fact, professional development is the very topic of our next edition! If you have an experience to share and/or advice to give on progressing one’s career in the CDI profession, or just want to practice it in action by writing about another topic you’re passionate about, we’d love to receive your submission. Contributors published in the Journal receive 0.5 CEUs per 350 published words (articles tend to be around the 750-1,500-word mark), and the deadline for the January/February edition is December 1, 2023!
Please reach out to me if you have any questions or are interested in writing for our next Journal edition!
