Note from the ACDIS Editor: Happy June!
by Carolyn Riel
I know that summer doesn’t officially begin for a few more weeks, but June always feels like the unofficial start of summer. It’s when the weather really starts to stay consistently warm in New England, the sun is up later into the evening, restaurants switch over to their summer food and cocktail specials, and it just gives you an overall feeling of, “yes, summer is here!”
Truthfully, summer isn’t my favorite season like it seems to be for many people. I’ll take a mild New Hampshire fall day more often than I’d prefer a hot beach day (don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy both). But there’s something about rainy, gloomy spring finally going away and welcoming warmer sunny weather that’s just good for your soul.
Summer generally also means summer vacations both for kids in school as well as us working folk. Though 2020 stole true vacations from many of us, maybe this year will be different with so many people having gotten vaccines. Maybe we will be able to enjoy a typical summer vacation again?
My perfect summer day includes waking up early to go to my best friend’s family beach house, of course stopping at Dunkin’ Donuts on the way for coffee and bagels, packing up a cooler and parking our chairs in the sand. Spend most of the day in the sun with a few dips in the salt water, head back in the late afternoon and take a sunburned shower and finish the evening with seafood and a grilled dinner paired with chilled white wine.
Unfortunately, days like that cannot happen every day. Jobs exist, remember?
Luckily, there are options to mesh together the workday and feeling of summer, such as the ACDIS Online: CDI Summer Retreat!
By now I’m sure you all are fully aware of the virtual event and all of the fun and education it will entail, but it really will bring the perfect glimpse of summer into your workday. We’ve been working behind the scenes to set up games and sessions, making sure it will feel as close to kicking up your feet and relaxing in the sun as possible while still furthering your working education.
If you haven’t yet, take a look at the ACDIS Online: CDI Summer Retreat overview and see all of the sessions available. Registering is easy, and I promise it will be worth it. I look forward to seeing you all there!
