The ICD-9 Coordination and Maintenance Committee recently posted the March 9-10 Diagnosis Meeting Agenda. The agenda included a discussion of proposed ICD-9 diagnosis additions and revisions as well as additions and revisions for draft ICD-10 code sets. You can view the agenda on the CDC website: http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/icd9/TopicpacketforMarch2011_HA1.pdf.
This will be the last update to ICD-9 prior to implementation of ICD-10, set to take place on October 1, 2013. Bear in mind the agenda provided by the Coordination and Maintenance Committee represents proposals only and these are subject to change based on discussion and input from meeting attendees and final decision making by the Committee. A number of CDI-related topics were addressed, including the following:
- Malnutrition
- Acute kidney injury and related disorders
- Postoperative respiratory failure and shock
All CDI specialists are encouraged to view the proposed changes and submit their comments to the CDC by April 1, 2011. Comments should be submitted to the following CDC representatives:
Donna Pickett (301) 458-4434
E-mail: dfp4@cdc.gov
David Berglund (301) 458-4095
E-mail zhc2@cdc.gov
