CDI Strategies - Volume 11, Issue 24
A few weeks ago, ACDIS published its first list of trending topics on the Forum. This second edition of “Trending on the ACDIS Forum” will help you stay connected even after the annual ACDIS conference buzz wears off.
While all the forum topic categories have some activity this month, the “Clinical & Coding” section has seen the most action. Here’s a few topics to join in on:
- Asthma with acute respiratory failure versus acute respiratory failure with asthma: Join in on the debate over the coding sequence of asthma and acute respiratory failure in the pediatric world and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and acute respiratory failure in the adult world.
- Sepsis and code sequencing: Weigh in on a case example regarding the sequencing of sepsis with various other serious conditions and diseases.
- Sepsis-3 denial help: Discuss the changing tide of sepsis definitions and how to combat denials using the newest definitions.
- Query format: Add your thoughts on querying for critical illness myopathy for severity of illness (SOI) and risk of mortality (ROM) in ICU patients.
- Encephalopathy due to UTI & code G94: Lend your thoughts to the coding of encephalopathy due to urinary track infection and how to combat denials in this area.
- Postop atrial fib: Offer your opinion on how to report and code atrial fibrillation that develops postop in thoracotomy patients and whether or not this would be a complication.
- Documentation of “concern for”: Weigh in on whether “concern for” can be used to code an uncertain diagnosis at the time of discharge from a CDI and coder perspective.
- Clinical validation: Join in on the discussion of clinical validation queries, how to write them, and any templates in use.
