Associate Director's Note: Top 10 lists
The Late Show with David Letterman popularized the “top 10” list, casting everything from Star Wars characters to baked goods to quotes heard on the subway, in a contest for the top spot.
We all love a good contest. We all want to know which city will earn the “best place to live,” which hospital will earn accolades as US News & World Report’s “best” of whichever category—children’s, cancer treatment, location. We all want to be the winner.
CDI programs can actually play a role in earning such honors for their facilities. In so many ways, CDI efforts affect what data the hospital puts out. This data can help reimbursement, it’s true. But when incorporated collaboratively across departments, a whole host of other benefits emerge, which can help improve your facility’s profile.
In the short term, see how your facility measures up. Take a look at the list setters, the ones who compile the algorithms and write the reports granting these honors:
Pay attention to others successes, and then identify ways your CDI program can strive to help your facility improve too. Then you can make your own “top 10” list, outlining the ways you helped.
