ACDIS update: Earn CCDS CEUs for writing articles accepted to the CDI Journal
Starting with the January/February 2019 edition of the CDI Journal, contributing writers who have a 700-1,500-word article published in the Journal will be granted one (1) Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) continuing education credit (CEU), at the discretion of the ACDIS editorial team.
Articles submitted may be placed in one of ACDIS’ publications (CDI Journal, CDI Strategies, ACDIS Blog) at the discretion of the ACDIS editorial team. Only articles chosen for publication in the Journal will be awarded a CCDS CEU.
In order to be considered for publication in the Journal, contributors must:
- Submit an original piece of writing on a topic in CDI that is between 700 and 1,500 words long to ACDIS Editorial Director Melissa Varnavas (mvarnavas@acdis.org) and ACDIS Editor Linnea Archibald (larchibald@acdis.org)
- Include a short professional bio and headshot with your submission
- Work with ACDIS editorial staff to edit and adjust the article as needed to suit the needs of ACDIS’ publications
ACDIS seeks practical information regarding clinical and coding concerns with detailed recommendations for readers on how to apply that information to their daily practices. So, for example, case study information regarding how your facility identified a documentation problem and how it was addressed, sample queries or policy changes, or data analysis recommendations.
The deadline for submitting to a particular issue of the Journal is always the first of the month prior to the publication month. For example, the deadline for March/April 2019 edition is February 1, 2019. Submissions are rolling, however, so contributors can submit articles at any point during the month.
While submissions do not necessarily need to fit the theme of a given edition, the ACDIS editorial staff has laid out the following themes for the CDI Journal in 2019 and contributors are welcome to submit something related to a particular theme if they choose. These include:
- January/February: Interdepartmental collaboration/expansion
- March/April: CDI technology
- May/June: Physician education and engagement
- July/August: Leadership and career ladders
- September/October: Denials management and appeals
- November/December: Payment and regulatory advancements
While ACDIS is excited to award a CCDS CEU for contributing to the CDI Journal as a guest writer, please note that the space in each edition is limited and therefore your article may be placed in a different publication as needed. Again, only articles chosen for the Journal will be eligible for a CEU.
