ACDIS update: ACDIS Director Brian Murphy on the Not Elsewhere Classified podcast
While ACDIS members are used to hearing ACDIS Director Brian Murphy every other week on ACDIS Radio, Murphy recently did a stint on another industry podcast, called Not Elsewhere Classified.
Brian Cui, the host of Not Elsewhere Classified, sat down with Murphy for a special two-part series on Murphy and the ACDIS journey, as well as the current state of the CDI industry. Part one can be accessed now the Medical Coding Geek website or via your favorite podcast app. The second part of the interview will be the next podcast episode.
During the show, listeners will hear all about how Murphy went from teaching high school English, to sports reporting, to writing for Briefings on APCs and Briefings on Coding Compliance Strategies, and eventually all the way to ACDIS in 2007.
“We started hearing about a new profession emerging. It had been around, but there was no real name or acronym for it, there was no structure around it,” said Murphy regarding ACDIS’ beginnings, adding that those working as clinical documentation specialists were “really just ground-level” with this “new profession” and were looking for a home, a place where they could be recognized for the work they were doing and share their experiences with others performing similar roles.
